Payroll Supervisor

Brief Job Description:
Supervises computation of pay according to company policy and in accordance with government regulations and tax codes. This position supervises and coordinates activities of the payroll staff function of recording hours of work, processing time records, compiling payroll statistics, maintaining payroll control records, and calculating payrolls. Participates in payroll processing and performs accounting-related tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes, prepares and inputs payroll data using automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll. Ensures compliance with all applicable state/local and federal laws
  • Prepares periodic (weekly, monthly, quarterly, year-end) reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc) for management
  • Performs various account reconciliation, audit and analysis and may provide General Ledger support
  • Prepares government reports
  • Researches tax/government notices and prepares response
  • Solves problems concerning payroll, answers inquiries, and enforces payroll policies
  • Assists in development of overall payroll procedures by recommending improvements or changes when deemed necessary for greater efficiency
  • Assumes responsibility for department in absence of manager
  • Performs other duties comparable to the above, as the above duties describe only the typical, primary features of the job

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related field OR An Associate’s degree with five (5) years of Payroll/Accounting/Finance related experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Three (3) years supervisory experience related to Payroll/HRIS automated system
  • Planning and organization: an ability to plan and manage multiple projects
  • Strong customer orientation
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Computer proficiency: Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Related work experience in payroll (High-Volume, Multi-State)
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred
  • ADP knowledge/experience preferred

  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (current or future)
  • Ability to provide 10 years of employment, education, unemployment history per FAR 108.33
  • Successful completion of FBI criminal history check that reveals no felony convictions in most recent 10 years
